Established
in 1995, Oxbau Akitas' foundation is based on respect for the
Akita
breed and my dedication to the sport of Dog Showing. We are relocating with no
show/breeding plans for the future..
At the age of fourteen, I started at a new high school,
which had a 4-H club, In this club, there was a young man by the name of
Michael Robinson. He and his mother,
Florence
, were giving free obedience lessons and invited club members to participate.
I took my Shepard/Lab mix and completed the course with honors. It was at this
time she asked if I wanted to get serious about dogs. She informed me that
there was a sport called Dog Showing that I could participate in and that she
would show me how.
I joined Mrs. Robinson and her son at the next meeting of
the Baton Rouge Kennel Club where I met Lynette Clooney; a breeder of Lhasa
Apsos who had an adult male she wanted to place. Thus came my first purebred
dog, a male Lhasa Apso by the name of Dolsa Sin-Sa Ting Shags "LiLi".
He and I competed in junior showmanship for the next four years until the
adults in my life said I should concentrate on my studies at the university
and leave dogs alone for a while.
I re-entered the sport in 1995. Having traveled with the
Robinson's Alaskan Malamutes, I wanted something similar to that breed but
with more of an edge to it's temperament and a variety of colors. In came the
love of my life, the
Akita
.
My signature "Excellence Without Compromise" comes
from a local pastor, Larry Stockstill, in Baker, La. Every student who enters
his school,
Bethany
Christian
School
, is told to strive for Excellence in everything they do but to not Compromise
the word of God to be a success.
Oxbau Show Kennels strives for Excellence in
conformation, health and temperament. We will not Compromise the
American Kennel Club standard for the
Akita
.
